As a general rule, I do not care about the Grammys – historically they’ve kind of been a joke. But Daft Punk’s performance of “Get Lucky” (and the fact that Daft Punk picked up both Record and Album of the Year) with not only Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers but also STEVIE WONDER kinda makes me care.
The performance starts and grooves like hell and you’re loving the fact that Stevie is jamming on “Get Lucky,” but basically you’re just waiting for the inevitable moment that Thomas Bangalter and Manuel de Homem-Christo appear. And then at 2:15 they do and things go insane. Should one cry over disco? Probably not, but that’s kind of what happened. I’m not entirely capable of articulating why the duo’s reveal is so moving. Whatever, it’s freaking magnificent.
